The fast and easy ones

P1060180

I can not help it - I just have to do the easy units :-)
It is nice to get the count up!
I do have a competitive gene, and I am absolutely happy to compete with myself.

After this week I will have to concentrate on other projects too, so then I will aim at sticking to one block a week - I think ;-)

One more :-)

P1060178
This is still fun :-)
Maybe I can finish more units this weeks, in between other tasks in the sewing corner and elsewhere ?

Fluttering Butterflies :-)

P1060173
A wonderful weekend has come to its end, and we really did make a small dent in the butterfly blocks.
May Britt finished many units on block # 5, and I am jumping around with both appliqué and stitchery.

 P1060175
One small unit down,

P1060176
and another one soon to be done :-)

Working as a team is great fun!
Thanks May Britt for fluttering along with me :-)

What about Butterfly Garden ??

Since my remark in a previous post several have asked about Butterfly Garden.

P1060155
Pulling my hair in despair !!

P1060160
Here is how far I have got,

P1060159

P1060162

and here are May Britt's blocks

What made this project come to a halt ?

We both subscribed to this BOM from an internet shop overseas, after seeing the project at Leanne Beasley's workshop in Norway, when the project was hot off the press.

We pushed the Buy button, and waited VERY eagerly by the mail box for our goodies to arrive.
It started so well, with blocks on time every month, and we were happy and excited, until the packages stopped to arrive on time, and it went down hill from there.

The happy quilters did not receive their blocks like they were used to, less than half way through the project, and with a quilter's attention span, we lost interest in blocks we did not know when to expect and so forth.

The project was set for failure!

We have tried to refuel the interest in this lovely quilt many times, but to no success…..

Well, well - we are trying again, optimists as we are, as we both want the quilt done :-))

P1060166

P1060167
The two happy quilters made a deal and took a hand shake on making 1 unit a week, until the quilt is done, with  an agreement we both want this quilt done and ready for use before next summer!
To much time and to much money have gone in to the project to just let it sit in a box forever :-)

Anyone wanting to join us ?
The more the merrier :-)

Another temptation!

P1060134
I can not resist sampler quilts, especially if they are based on blocks and designs from the Civil War era :-)

This is Rosemary Young's lovely book. I have had an urge to do it for a long time, and I have thumbed the book a gazillion times since I bought it from Rosemary 2 years back.
As you can see I also have a project file for EQ6 on a CD.
Makes it very easy to print the blocks.

If you want to contact Rosemary for info about her books and CDs, you can email her: ryquilter1 at msn.com.
Your local quilt shop may carry the books too.
The later editions of this book has a different cover, with a red heart on it, instead of the two soldiers.

The book is a treat in many ways - beautiful blocks and letters from the Civil War era.

P1060135
1st block made :-)

It is named Enthusiasm - a good start to a lovely quilt.
The letter is from USA's 19th president, Rutherford B. Hayes, to his wife, dated July 27, 1861, when he was fighting in the Civil War.
The work title for my quilt is Civil War Love Letter Quilt goes to Japan.
The quilt has 121 blocks.

Resisting anything but temptations :-)

P1060133

I have been wanting this BOM from Northern Quilts for a long time, and now I  have given in to the temptation :-)

Nordic style, Norwegian text and all included - embroidery thread, fabrics, stabilizer and all.

Shhhh - do not remind me about Butterfly Garden, please ;-)

Hanne

A small finish :-)

P1060130
DD2 also wanted one of the cute laundry bags from Ann's class.
We made a small change to the design so it can be buttoned around a closet hanging rod easily :-)

Thread therapy

P1060138
I can not help it - I have to stitch or piece a little every day, even when I am sick.
As long as I was out of bed I did some stitchery every day through the pneumonia, and now all the stitcheries for the Christmas Elves quilt are done :-)

P1060140
2 Tilda stitcheries are done too, as well as 2 other stitcheries,
P1060143

and I have an old Bronwyn Hayes design in progress as we speak.

PS. I never count finished stitcheries as Ufos - they are my small snacks, just for fun :-)

Quilt guild trip

 P1060082 ^
Every year my quilt guild has a day trip for the members. It is not an old tradition, but a good one, nevertheless :-)

This year we travelled over the border to Sweden and Lapp-Elisa's newly moved shop.
The old school in her village is now her home and her shop.

P1060083
Temptations galore :-)
Nicely packed in see through bags and rolled in tempting rolls.

   P1060089P1060087P1060085
A lot of patterns to choose from too !
P1060088  P1060090
Standing in line to pay in a quilt shop is so much better than standing in line in the grocery shop ;-)
P1060091

Elisabeth, the shop owner, who is Norwegian by the way,  gave a speech on how she started quilting, how she moved to Sweden ( love off course), and how she started the shop and how it has grown to be the great shop it is today.
She also takes international orders, just so you know :-)

P1060104
Elisabeth had a lot of inspiration to share while we enjoyed a Swedish smorgasbord :-)

Care quilts day

P1060064
Wednesday last week, my friend Bente and I joined forces in finishing more care quilts for children with long term diseases.

A friend of mine, Iren, is a wiz in making lovely quilt tops, and I have taken upon myself to make sure these lovely tops will warm children in need.

P1060072

This last one was a kit made by a lady in Bente's quilt guild.
She who took it home to frame the printed squares returned it the month after because she did not have time to do the work.
It took me about 2-3 hours to finish the top and piece a backing.

P1060074
We found backings, pinned, quilted and had coffees :-)

P1060080
When we met on Tuesday, 6 days later, the status was as follows:

P1060114
Done!

P1060116

Bente carrying care quilts and more backings.
Never a dull moment for happy care quilt sewing ladies :-)

Sewing care quilts are very rewarding - try it and enjoy!

I will add 2 of the finishes to my OPAM list - the panel quilt and the happy colours square quilt.

Long time no blogging

It sure took a long time to be done with the pneumonia, but now, now I am back in business again, finally :-)

The first weekend in June I had the pleasure to teach in Kragerø,

P1060048

As usual I got the very best students :-)
They were very good at making kaleidoscope.

P1060040

Tove in deep concentration :-)

P1060051
André taught purses.

P1060054
Brita taught meshwork.

P1060045
Ellen taught fabric dyeing.

Just like last year, it was a treat to be teaching in Kragerø, at Broderibua.
Anne Berit served the very best food and a good time were had by all :-)

P1060033
The view is lovely, as was the weather.
P1060034

We ate and had a great social time in the party tent.

Keep an eye on Anne Berit's website for next year's classes!
