A fantastic day !

  P1050389

It was with great anticipation I entered the classroom on Saturday morning, to attend a 6 hour class with the famous Japanese designer and quilter Yoko Saito.

We had a Japanese interpreter in the class through the day.

She is not a quilter, but maybe she will try her hand with a stitch or two too now :-)

We were all presented with a gorgeous kit of fabrics and a gift from Yoko Saito and FRJ, the 4-in-1 Essential Sewing Tool.
A wonderful tool indeed! Thank you ever so much :-)

P1050387
None of us understand much Japanese, but we do not "read" quilt only by eyes but also by heart :-)
Yoko Saito is a very good and graphic instructor.

We all enjoyed being instructed in groups around her table and she also showed us her methods of appliqué and quilting.
Yoko Saito has the smallest stitches!
Even when she worked with red thread on light fabric so we could see the process we could barely see the red thread.

We got good instructions both on paper and on the wall board, and personally I now think I can read my Japanese books and patterns in an easier way, being more familiar with how they are built up :-)

Yoko Saito's co-worker Satomi Funamoto (to the left)  is also a great lady!

Here is another bag from Yoko Saito's new book :-)

We also got the story about how this quilt came to life and how Yoko had made it.

  3. Oh, you were so lucky! I love her designs. How fun that must have been. I'm hoping for a lot of Japanese fabric and books in Shipshewana. And I would also like some Liberty of London fabric too. I'm addicted.
