The Watermelon quilt done
The week went so fast and it has been a week since I last posted.
The Pentecost holiday, family, friends and everyday life have got the best of me.
I have been very busy finishing the Watermelon quilt and I put the last stitches in yesterday. Now it has been washed and is ready to go to my guild's show and tell today :-)
It was my May goal and it is so nice to be done.
The quilting really made this quilt!
I have used a soft silk thread - see the brown spool in the next photo. Thanks to the Clover needle threader it was threadable in the quilting needles too.
I will quilt more Baptist Fans in the future - I really like the shape and the appearance.
The teacher's inspiration was this quilt in American Patchwork & Quilting, Issue 72, February 2005.
Thanks Sigrun for giving me the magazine and thanks Linda J. for telling me about it.
Here you can see the teacher Rie's quilt. Adding a Dear Jane block in the cornerstones really gave the quilt a lift. I used a variation of another block, but the impression is still there.
My friend Val in Canada bought the raspberry red fabric I have used for the binding, which is very like a raspberry red I used in one of the blocks. I searched high and low for this particular colour and have meters of wrong shaded to prove it, shopped from various internet shops. Thanks Val for helping me out :-)
What is next on my to do list you might wonder ?
NI blocks, stitchery, class projects for the autumn. Not a dull day in sight :-)
